Understanding the tools your Chiropractor may use:

Activator

  • An activator is a spring loaded instrument used as an alternative to manual adjustments. It delivers a high speed, controlled force to a localized area with low force. This tool is typically used for people in a very acute stage of a condition, for pediatric patients or for elderly patients with osteoporosis

Blocks

  • The blocks are a wedge shaped cushioned block that is used in certain positions under a patients pelvis/hips. This can aid in mechanically repositioning the pelvis as the muscles and tendons relax and stretch to an optimal state. They can also be used to position you into a flexed or extended position to take pressure off the low back. Your chiropractor will assess your pelvis and leg length to determine the appropriate position for the blocks.

Drop piece

  • Many chiropractic tables, including the ones we have here at Yeronga Chiropractic, have segments that lift up and drop down. When utilised, it can be a lower force adjustment technique used for patients in acute pain, who have lower bone density or as an alternative to the manual adjustment. The table drop pieces allow for controlled adjustments with minimised force through the joints

Speeder board

  • The speeder board or extremity drop piece is a smaller version of the chiropractic table drop pieces. This is a great low force tool that allows chiropractors to still deliver localized, specific adjustments to joints. Typically, this tool is used to treat shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles but it is also used frequently in paediatric chiropractic for low force treatment options.
