Pinched Nerve, Radiating Pain

Address the root cause — not just the symptoms

Pinched nerves are frequently treated conditions at Yeronga Chiropractic. Nerves extending from the spinal cord carry signals throughout the body. Nerve pain doesn’t always mean the nerve is literally compressed — irritation can also stem from inflammation, stretching, or overstimulation.

  • Pain at the nerve site or radiating outward
  • Pins and needles / tingling
  • Numbness in arms, hands or fingers
  • Reduced strength or dexterity
  • Heat sensations along the nerve pathway
  • Sciatica-type leg symptoms
  • Herniated disc pressing on a nerve root
  • Bone spurs narrowing the spinal canal
  • Tight muscles compressing a nerve
  • Poor posture sustained over time
  • Repetitive movements at work or sport
  • Swelling or inflammation around a joint
  • How Nerves Become Compressed

Nerves become compressed between bones, ligaments, or tendons — particularly where the soft tissue protection around them is minimal. A herniated disc pressing on a nerve root is one common cause. Bone spurs, tight muscles, swollen joints, and sustained poor posture can all have the same effect. Symptoms in the neck, shoulders, arms, lower back, or lower limbs point to the affected spinal region and guide the treatment approach.

  • Symptoms to Watch For

Nerve pain doesn’t always feel like pain — it can manifest as pins and needles, burning, numbness, or weakness. Symptoms may be localised to one spot or travel along the nerve pathway (as with sciatica). In severe cases where function is significantly compromised, surgical referral may be needed — but most patients respond well to conservative care before that point is reached. Seeking help early prevents the compression from worsening.

  • Our Treatment Approach

We use targeted spinal adjustments, soft tissue techniques, and prescribed stretches to reduce nerve pressure and restore normal joint and muscle function. Rather than masking the symptom with pain relief, we address the root cause — joint alignment, disc health, and muscle balance. Patients typically notice encouraging improvement within a few visits, with exercises provided to maintain gains between appointments and reduce the risk of recurrence.

When to Seek Help

  • Persistent pins and needles or numbness
  • Weakness in the hands, arms or legs
  • Symptoms that wake you at night
