Optimise your surgical outcomes

Pre & Post Surgery

Pre-surgical care prepares your body for surgery; post-surgical care supports recovery, rehabilitation, and long-term function.

Conditions We Treat

  • Pre-surgery care
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Return-to-activity management
  • Ongoing pain management
  • Pre and Post Surgery Care

Surgery fixes a structural problem. It does not, on its own, restore the strength, coordination, and confident movement you had before things started hurting.

That gap is where chiropractic care earns its place, both in the weeks leading up to your procedure and across the months that follow.

Preparation matters more than most people realise. Patients who go into an operation with better mobility, less pain, and stronger supporting muscles tend to have an easier time afterwards.

  • Pre-Surgery Care Prepares you for better and faster recovery.

Working with Dr Aidan and his team can assist you to get your body into the best possible condition for what is coming. That might mean settling an inflamed joint, freeing up restricted movement in the spine or pelvis, or teaching you how to move and manage things safely before the surgery.

Education can be just as important as intervention.

  • Post Surgery Recovery

After surgery, the focus shifts. Healing tissue needs protection, but the rest of your body needs to keep moving. Weeks of guarding, limping, or sleeping in one position create compensations that outlast the surgical wound itself.

A shoulder repair can leave your neck and upper back doing work they were never designed for. A knee replacement changes how you load your hips and lower back. Abdominal surgery quietly switches off the deep core muscles that stabilise your spine. These issues are common, they are treatable, and they respond well to a structured plan. Management of these peripheral issues will assist in your full recovery.

Care is always adapted to your stage of recovery. We do not apply forceful techniques near a healing surgical site. Early sessions are gentle and focused on comfort and safe movement. As you progress, care becomes more active, blending hands on treatment with a home exercise program that rebuilds strength and control. Throughout, we work in step with the rest of your team, because good outcomes come from everyone pulling in the same direction.

Whether you are counting down to a date on the calendar or 6 months out and your body is still not moving the way you want, structured support by the team at Yeronga Chiro makes the road smoother.

Same week appointments are available at our Yeronga Chiro clinic, and no referral is required.

Frequently Asked Questions about

  • Can seeing a chiropractor before surgery actually make a difference?

It can. The stronger and more mobile you are going into an operation, the better your starting point on the other side. Pre-surgery care at our Yeronga chiro clinic focuses on settling pain, improving joint range of motion, and building stability in the muscles that will do the heavy lifting during your recovery. If you have been putting up with a sore lower back or a stiff hip for months while waiting on a surgical date, that time is far better spent preparing than simply enduring. We work alongside your surgeon and never do anything that conflicts with their plan.

  • How soon after surgery can I see a Post Surgery Chiropractor?

That timing belongs to your surgeon, not us.

Every procedure has its own healing timeline, and we will not start hands on care until you have been cleared. What we can do in the meantime is talk with you about positioning, safe movement at home, and what your rehabilitation is likely to involve. For most patients across Brisbane, care with us begins once the initial healing phase is complete and the focus shifts to restoring movement and function.

  • Is chiropractic care safe after spinal surgery?

Yes, when it is adapted properly. We do not apply forceful adjustments to a surgical site. Instead, care is directed at the areas above and below, which often take on extra load and become a source of pain long after the operation itself has healed.

Techniques are gentle, low force, and matched to your stage of recovery. As a Brisbane chiro practice, we treat plenty of patients who had successful surgery yet still deal with compensations elsewhere in the spine and pelvis.

  • What does post surgical care actually involve?

Usually a mix of gentle joint work, soft tissue therapy, and a home exercise plan you can genuinely stick to. Sore lower back treatment after abdominal, hip, or spinal procedures often has as much to do with rebuilding core control as it does with the joints themselves. Our five exercises for lower back pain that our chiropractors recommend is a good starting point, though we will always adjust the plan to suit where you are in your recovery.

  • Do I need a referral, and what happens at my first visit?

No referral is needed to book. Bring any scans, surgical notes, or discharge paperwork you have, and we will run a full assessment before recommending anything. If you are unsure what an appointment looks like, our guide on what to expect at your first chiropractic appointment walks through it step by step. We also accept most health funds, plus NDIS, WorkCover, DVA, and Medicare EPC referrals where eligible.
