Pregnancy is one of the most physically demanding experiences the human body goes through. As your body adapts to accommodate a growing baby, significant changes occur in your posture, centre of gravity, and spinal alignment — often resulting in lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, round ligament pain, and sciatica. Chiropractic care offers a safe, drug-free approach to managing these common complaints.
Research supports the use of chiropractic during pregnancy. A 2014 review in the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health found that chiropractic care was effective for managing pregnancy-related low back and pelvic pain, with no adverse effects reported in the studies reviewed. Our chiropractors use gentle, pregnancy-specific techniques and we have a specially designed pregnancy table that allows you to lie comfortably on your front.
One of the most popular techniques we offer expectant mothers is the Webster Technique. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, this specific chiropractic adjustment aims to reduce sacral subluxation and improve pelvic balance and function. Optimal pelvic alignment can help create more space for your baby as they grow and may support optimal foetal positioning. Our principal chiropractor, Dr. Sarah Johnson, is Webster Technique certified.
Chiropractic is generally safe throughout all three trimesters. However, certain conditions may require medical clearance first — including placenta praevia, pre-eclampsia, or ectopic pregnancy. We always conduct a thorough health history at your first visit and will refer you to your obstetrician or GP if we have any concerns. If you are pregnant and experiencing back, hip, or pelvic pain, we encourage you to book an appointment and experience the difference safe, gentle chiropractic care can make.
