CHIROPRACTIC TOOLS

Chiropractors use various techniques and equipment to help alleviate pain and improve the
functioning of the musculo-skeletal system. Chiropractic care may use a combination of
manual adjustments (hands-on technique) and equipment-assisted methods where
activators, extremity drop piece and pelvic blocks may be used. The choice of equipment
should be based on the patient’s condition, preferences and the chiropractor’s assessment.

Activators

An activator is an adjusting instrument allowing chiropractors to provide a quick, low-force
impulse at specific points along the spine. It can be used as an alternative to, or used in
addition with traditional hands-on chiropractic adjustments. The high speed nature of the
activator gun, aims to relax muscles, restoring motion to a targeted area.

Extremity Drop Piece

A chiropractic extremity drop piece is a specialized piece of equipment used to perform adjustments
on various joints in the extremities such as arms, legs hands and feet. It consists of a padded surface
where the patient’s extremity is place, allowing your chiropractor to apply pressure to a joint. The
drop piece releases upon pressure; providing a quick, controlled correction to the joint being
adjusted.
Chiropractic care should be performed by qualified practitioners. Each patient’s needs should be
assessed and treatment tailored accordingly.

Pelvic Blocks

Chiropractic pelvic blocks or wedges are used as a therapeutic tool in chiropractic care to address
issues related to the sacroiliac joints and pelvis. The primary purpose of chiropractic blocks are to
help with joint alignment, relieve pain or discomfort, correct postural alignment and support during
an adjustment.

Chiropractic treatment plans are tailored to individual patient’s needs and may include various
techniques and modalities. Using extremity drop pieces, pelvic blocks and activators may be part of
your care.
